International History

Ladies Circle was founded as a result of the wives of Round Table (RTI) wanting to participate in the work being carried out by their husbands. The first Circle was established in Bournemouth England in 1936. In 1947 LC Sweden was founded and followed shortly by LC Denmark. Contact was made between the three circles and in 1959 the International Organisation was born being the LCI (Ladies Circle International).

Many countries followed and by the AGM of August 2017, affiliation to Ladies Circle International exists in 42 countries with a membership base that is over 12,000 women. Membership to Ladies Circle is opened to women between the ages of 18 years to 45 years.

The constitution is based on equality of all member associations within an international structure. At the 1994 AGM Ladies Circle International became totally independent from the Round Table International (RTI).

In 2006, LCI and RTI signed a Memorandum of Understanding to encourage a closer working relationship whilst assisting each other in projects and memberhip recruitment. The cooperation was further reinforced by both sides in 2015 and this is referred to as the “Side by Side” campaign.

Annual General Meeting (AGM)

Every year Ladies Circle International has its annual AGM in August/ September. The actual conference usually lasts between 3 to 5 days.

This is a time to meet Circlers from other Countries and it only makes you realise and appreciate the diversity of cultures, personalities coming together all with the same vision and aim. It is a truly wonderful experience and every member should at least attend an international AGM once. Each country has to host its own AGM every year and to submit reports of such meetings to the International Board

Mid Term Meetings (MTM)

Every region holds a midterm meeting to discuss issues that it considers pertinent to its area or discuss motions that need to be considered for submission to the International Board and ultimately the AGM for resolution. This usually lasts between 2 to 4 days and is usually held at end of January.
